SKETCH/
COLLAGE
For the final project of DS 220, students were asked to create three-dimensional models, sketches, and digital collages that would assist in the making of a major installation that addresses a crucial global issue.
My group and I chose to address a significant social issue that plagues the world: gun violence in schools. After creating our vision boards, we decided to focus on one of its most detrimental impacts– the extreme fear and trauma children face when experiencing and recovering from this tragic reality.
My three-dimensional models focused on different textures that could be used when composing this installation, and I experimented with materials such as wire, thick paper, beads, pipe cleaners, wood, and plexiglass.
THREE-DIMENSIONAL MODELS

Using Photoshop to design the collage, I utilized images of our models as well as related material in order to convey our issue thoroughly.

As we developed our installation, I created a black and white sketch of the installation in the chosen site, using various textures for the walls, floor, ceiling, and the installation itself.

Our final project is a school setting with a window looking into a classic brick school building, shattered by the bullets of a firearm. Against the wall, rests a board filled with pairs of mosaic glass eyes, representing the frightened children watching. This project was definitely the most challenging project I’ve done, however by using the principles of design as well as teamwork, we were able to accomplish our goals.
