BLACK AND WHITE GRAPHIC DRAWING

For this assignment, students were asked to create a three-dimensional composition on a two-dimensional surface based on the abstraction of a common object to gain an understanding of depth.

I started this project with a necklace that contained many unique features that would enhance my composition.

After developing multiple rip-and-tear sketches, I decided that my final piece would involve all the different elements being drawn down to the bottom right corner, getting smaller as the viewers’ eyes move in order to create depth.

The various chain rings around the cut out black line and white swirl contain a unique texture and add further depth to the piece. I was able to produce depth through the design element of value using alcohol-based pens and add varying textures with micron pens. Overall, this assignment assisted in improving my drawing skills and helped me gain confidence using various art tools.
