CHOICE
PROJECT
For the Soundscape project, students were asked to design a three-dimensional model based on a song of the students’ choice while simultaneously utilizing the elements and principles of design.
I chose the song “The Nutcracker,” composed by Tchaikovsky, and when listening to this piece for the first time, I immediately envisioned specific aspects, such as silk material, deep reds, and sparkles that I wanted to utilize in my design through the element of color. An important characteristic of the song is the constant highs and lows in the pitch and tempo, and I manifested this piece through the element of unity, as although there are many highs and lows, the piece flows together as one.
RIP & TEAR SKETCHES

DETAILED SKETCHES

My final model is designed with curved lines that go up and come back down, just like the tempo in the song. Each individual line has color, starting with deep reds that lead to a glowing top, and the color on the individual figures help articulate the increase of pitch and tempo of the song. Simultaneously, the pattern of small to big to small figures represents the up-and-down nature of the piece. This project helped to push my creativity to the limits while also practicing the use of the elements of design.
